Mission Statement
The Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus creates social change through excellence in the choral arts.
Description
Over 30 years ago, five men met together in a living room and began what today has change into a 50 plus member strong singing group. As we enter our 34rd Season, we want to thank all of our patrons, donors, sponsors, chorines and staff for a wonderfully uplifting journey.
When the RGMC was founded, the struggle for equality was still in its relative infancy and our founding and early members raised their voices to give their stories and talents in song, establishing the RGMC as a act group known for its artistic excellence and engagement to the LGBT community.
The chorus regularly goes out into the community to sing at places such as SUNY Brockport and Genesee Community College, REAF, Asbury First United Methodist Church, the TedX talks, and more.
Membership is open to all and we pride ourselves on providing an inclusive, protected, and social place to come together, sing, and network. We hope to

The Rochester Gay Men's Chorus is a localchoir. They were founded in 1982 by five friends and today include over 80 members, with about 40 performing at any given time. The RGMC has performed all over the country and is recognizable for their local movement. They are very prominent in New York Declare, having inspired the creation of the Buffalo Male lover Men's Chorus, the Ithaca Gay Men's Chorus, and the Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus. The RGMC is trans* inclusive and open to anyone who can sing in a men's vocal range (first or second tenor, baritone or bass).
The chorus also includes a dance troupe called the Rochettes. Their styles comprise tap, swing, jazz, region, waltz, Broadway, disco, hip-hop, and more.
Rehearsals are held weekly at Downtown United Presbyterian Church. New members are welcome to join in September, January and April. Major concerts are in December, March and June at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance, featuring the Chorus, the Rochettes and gu
