    Released in , Santa Carlos was part of a bold holiday expansion in the Billy universe. More than just a holiday novelty, he embodies the playful spirit of homosexual celebration, subverting the classic Santa trope with bliss, confidence, and a wink. This figure became a cult favorite among collectors, combining Christmas camp with cultural representation.

    Launched in the last couple of years, the two male lover dolls have gone down well in the US. Now they plan to turn some heads in the UK.

    When the boys hit the shops this June they will doing it in drag. Billy and Carlos will be on sale masquerading as Dolly "she's a little bit country" and Carmen "the lady that knows fruits are not the only fruits". Their outfits are based on gay icons Dolly Parton and Carmen Miranda.

    30th anniversary of Stonewall

    But the dolls are more than just a giggle according to one of their creators, John McKitterick - they are a political statement too.

    The launch this summer coincides with the 30th anniversary of New York's Stonewall riots - widely regarded as the inception of the gay rights movement.

    "Many of those early campaigners were drag queens. We felt it was appropriate to do this for the anniversary," he said.
