Is squidward gay
Don’t Erase Squidward’s Bisexual Energy
For years, SpongeBob SquarePants fans have pondered the sexuality of their leading sponge. Over the weekend, they received a bit of sweet confirmation from Nickelodeon.
“Celebrating #Pride with the Queer community and their allies this month and every month,” Nickelodeon tweeted alongside photos of known attracted to both genders character Korra, from the Avatar: The Last Airbenderspinoff The Legend of Korra, and Schwoz Schwartz, from Henry Danger. (Michael D. Cohen, the actor who plays Schwartz, is a trans man.)
The third (and largest) photo: an exuberant SpongeBob bathed in neon rainbow light. Is SpongeBob actually gay?
“SpongeBob has the energy of Ariana Grande’s brother. He has Frankie Grande energy,” Lee, a 21-year-old nonbinary SpongeBob stan, tells me. (Frankie Grande is openly gay.)
This isn’t the first time SpongeBob’s sexuality has been addressed by the show. In 2002, series creator Stephen Hillenburg told the Wall Street Journal, “I always think of [the characters] as being somewhat asexual,” providing much-needed representation for the ace community.
But other fans believe SpongeBob is far from the only bottom in Bikini
LGBTQ Themes and Undertones in SpongeBob SquarePants
David Ayala
The cartoon show SpongeBob SquarePants has, for almost two decades, fazed youthful children and teens alike. Its unusual form of comedy and humor has appealed to many age demographics. Critics have referred to the show as “charming and whimsical, but clever enough to appeal to teens and college-aged kids.” Despite its extended run success, SpongeBob has not been without its controversies. These take shape mainly due to the uncertain sexual orientation of the title character. Despite not intended to act so, the show often mirrors themes and undertones that sympathize with the LGBTQ cause, even before the cause was becoming more acceptable. These, however, take the form of exaggerated LGBTQ stereotypes. The controversy also resulted due to the fact that the show was aimed at children. The scrutinize that will be answered in this analysis is whether the show intends to display its empathy to the LGBTQ lead to, albeit in a subliminal way, and does the audience, in this case children, are affected by the exposure of this.

I hugged the guy when he was disguised as a female and I think the game is trying to make me gay against my will. I wont stand this dishonesty.

Spongebob Squarepants - Is Squidward Gay?
GrandWino1
With my son visiting us for the entire summer, we’ve been subjected to hours upon hours of Spongebob Squarepants. I really don’t mind too much as it’s a pretty comical show and it beats a lot of the other crap he could be making me watch.
Anyway, I’ve always wondered if Squidward is supposed to be gay (subtley of course). There aren’t any outright stereotyes going on or anything, but there are enough little clues that I think establish a case. For example:
He loves interpretive dance (and wears a full leotard w/ headband while performing).
He’s sort of persnickety (not a reason in itself, but combined with everything else.)
He’s an artist/musician
Mostly, I’m thinking of certain lines and deeds that they give Squidward. One of the recent examples being the episode where Spongebob has to have his butt insert back together after it was shattered in an accident. He has to avoid any damage to his behind or else face the prospect of living his life with an iron butt. He’s walking past many obstacles when someone says, “Hey Spongebob, we finally hold enough people for a seven mile long spanking machine…” SB runs aw
