Maybe we’ve been operating under an obsolete impression about Salt Lake City creature very conservative. We’ve had many former-Mormon friends over the years tell us stories about how they were ostracized for existence LGBTQ+. Plus, Salt Lake City is the headquarters of the Mormon Church. But a recent opportunity to visit queer Salt Lake City updated our views. It appears that the city nicknamed “The Crossroads of the West” has come a elongated way towards tolerance, acceptance and even support. (And so have some Mormons, evidently.)
With Salt Lake City’s Pride events happening this weekend of June 7-8, 2025, there’s much to celebrate.
Overall, Salt Lake City’s downtown area and neighborhoods are charming and urbane. New construction is happening on nearly every block, and swarms of historic buildings have been renovated and repurposed into trendy addresses for restaurants, shops, galleries, hotels and living spaces. The streetscape is more vibrant than ever. Pockets of coolness can be easily found within walking distance of each other. Many businesses are flying rainbow flags, and the rest seem quite friendly and open.

Utah's first LGBTQ+ sports lock opens in Salt Lake City
They are Utah's first gay sports bar.
The Locker Room was transformed out of the former Fiddlers Elbow and Salt Lake Pizza and Pasta.
"We wanted to create a territory for everyone, especially those in the queer collective that don’t like the crazy night life," said co-owner Lynn Katoa.
They aren't just open at late hours, serving breakfast all day!
"This was something I dreamed of doing as a young adult," Lynn explained. "After retiring from the airline industry, it was now or never."
The Locker Room serves delicious sustenance from flat breads and pizza to burgers and few Fiddlers Elbow favorites like The Garlic Burger, Fettuccine Alfredo, and Jet & Blue Salad.
Come sit down, enjoy a meal, and have a cocktail while having fantastic conversations.
Located in the Sugarhouse area (1063 E 2100 S), they are considered a friendly neighborhood exclude and restaurant open from 11AM to 1AM daily.
