Sorry for the radio silence here, but after having returned home to the USA for the holidays, I’ve had a lot of time to consider and to reflect — mostly about the past year and a bit about the future. And in making some of my plans for the next year, I’ve consideration a lot about the past year.

Namely the truth that it’s probably been my gayest year ever. Is that even a thing? Who knows. I don’t care. But I feel like this was an important year for gay rights, and also for my own interest in gay travel.

Gay travel?!

Yeah, that topic again. Explore is travel, yes. But this year I’ve also realized just how many of my own trips and experiences are almost certainly chosen because of my own sexual choice. Where I’ve traveled to isn’t necessarily anything to do with the fact that I’m gay, I guess, but these are the places that I’ve found that are actually great for other gay travelers fond myself—either solo or for gay couples.

Every gay traveler, at one point, looked up at a rainbow and dreamt of seeing the world. ‘There must be somewhere better than this drab old town?'…each of us often wondered in our respective beige suburbs growing up…

Fast forward 20 years, and we're both living our think of seeing the society, one amazing continent at a time. Europe is hands down our favorite. We are biased, of course, as this is where we're from – Stefan is British/Greek Cypriot, and Seby is from France.

We've traveled extensively around Europe when growing up, as well as together as a gay couple. Of course, some places stood out to us more than others, so we list out what we found to be the best gay holiday destinations in Europe from our first-hand experience:

1. Sitges in Spain

For us, Sitges is the numero uno gay holiday destination in Europe. It's a miniature coastal town, around 45 minute train ride from Barcelona. For decades, it's been a famous LGBTQ mecca, full of many gay hangouts, all congregated together mainly along the Carrer de Joan Tarrida street.

Parties and Clubs

The Why Not opens its doors each Friday and Saturday. The relatively small downtown male lover club has been around for many years. It still busts out of its seams each weekend. Expect a hot bedtime on the dance floor where all the accepted house and dance hits are playing.

"Occident meets Orient and Poland is there too", is how organiser, Sabrina Andersrum, sums up her monthly Balkan clubbing BallCanCan. The criss-cross mixture of guests gyrate to Balkan-Pop and Turbo-Folk.

Vienna has its first Bear & Butch club in the form of the Pitbull. Since its opening in , the Pitbull team has provided sweat-producing beats for that pure testosterone rush.

queer:beat. LGBTIQ+ people and friends can dance away to indie rock, electronic and chart music here. Several DJs play for the young, dance-crazy crowd.

At the regularly held Ken Club, a mainly youthful crowd dances to pop and chart hits.
